About ARAOH

Founded in Ibadan, Nigeria on 1 December 1980, ARAOH has had periods of activity in African countries over the last 30 year despite communication difficulties over the long distances between countries, more so in earlier years before the electronic communication era. Finance and sponsorship of conferences was another hurdle that slowed down growth.

At the International Commission on Occupational Health 29th Triennial Congress in Cape Town from 22 – 27 March 2009, a group of African delegates met and decided to revitalise ARAOH. The South African Society of Occupational Medicine offered assistance with  a secretariat for correspondence and the organising of conferences.

Meetings were held at a SASOM Congress in 2010, where the ARAOH constitution was revised and arrangements were made for translating documents into French for interested persons in Francophone countries. It was decided that SASOM would host the first ARAOH Congress in 2011.

See the report of the ARAOH/SASOM in 2011 Congress, elsewhere on this page and watch out for news of the next ARAOH Congress in 2014.

Enthusiastic volunteers have formed an ARAOH Board, who will work on the future development of ARAOH and interested persons in Africa are welcome to apply for ARAOH membership. Currently there is no membership subscription.
